Image description

sarcophagus of Isis-Isis was the wife of Khabekhent, a son of Sennedjem, from Deir el-Medina. This coffin presents Isis as if she were still alive, rather than in the typical mummiform manner. She wears a heavy wig, with a large wesekh-collar below, and is wrapped in a long white tunic, from which her arms emerge. Her hands and arms are decorated with elaborate jewellery, and ivy can be seen along one side of the tunic. Her feet emerge from the tunic at the bottom of the coffin, separated by a short column of hieroglyphics. cairo egyptian museum-sarcophagus of Isis-JE 27309-CEM-01 02 09 017; wood, cloth, painted stucco; H. 193.5cm; 19th Dynasty, New Kingdom; Deir el-Medina, Luxor; Upper Floor, Room 17
