Image description

Mary Harris Jones (1837-1930) was an Irish born militant activist for workers' rights known as 'mother'. Her coffin is carried from St Gabriel's Catholic church in Washington and, as a final request, for burial at Mount Olive, Illinois next to several of her 'boys', coal miners who were killed in the 1898 Battle of Virden. William N. Doak, newly appointed Secretary of Labor stands centre right.
