DRAFT DEPICTING THE NORTH FACADE OF THE PARTHENON WHICH IS TO BE RECOVERED, 2001-08-06 (photo)

The northern facade of the Parthenon is depicted on this draft by the team of archaeologists responsible for its restoration. The project aims to rebuild the northern side of the monument placing the drums and the capitals of the columns in their original positions, according to the colours of the draft, and is expected to be finished before the 2004 Olympiad. These parts were mistakenly placed in wrong columns during the Acropolis' last reconstruction in 1927. Meanwhile the Greek Culture Ministry has asked Britain to return one drum and one capital, taken from the Acropolis by Lord Elgin in the 19th century, in order to position them in the monument.
