Creator: Rowntree, Kenneth (1915-97) A Council for the Encouragement of Music and the Arts (CEMA) canteen, showing a woman in the foreground serving cake, and men seated at tables with sandwiches and tea, Isle of Dogs, London, 1941. Kenneth Rowntree trained at the Ruskin School of Drawing where he was taught by Eric Ravilious. He was a British official war artist and, as a Conscientious Objector, travelled extensively in England and Wales depicting the people and places on the Home Front. In 1953, he painted scenes on the Coronation route for Queen Elizabeth II, who purchased some of his works.
