A fisherman stands in the River Tay in Perthshire, Scotland, which is known as a fine trout and salmon river. This view shows the river in its high reaches in the mountains of Perthshire, where it flows out of Loch Tay. In this scene, autumn browns are just starting to appear in the foliage of the trees. Thomas Miles Richardson painted many Scottish views. He was an extremely talented watercolourist, and was one of the sons of the Newcastle artist Thomas Miles Richardson, Senior.
