‘View of Position captured from the Rebels’, 1858 circa. Lithograph from ‘General Views and Special Points of Interest of the City of Lucknow’, a series of 27 coloured lithographs by R M Bryson, E Walker, F Jones after Lieutenant-Colonel D S Dodgson, published by Day and Son, 1 September 1860. In this image the River Gumti is visible to the left adjacent to the Dil Aram, a palace behind which the mutineers positioned a large gun battery.Opposite is the Moti Mahal and the Shah Nujeef mosque. In the foreground British sharpshooters take cover behind a low parapet, beyond which is the Judicial Commissioner's House. This was an exposed part of the Lucknow garrison and the building therefore displays much damage from musketry and round shot.
