Apprentice workshop at the Volkswagen Vorwerk in Braunschweig, newly built in 1938, photographed in July 1939. The Vorwerk served as an apprenticeship and training facility for the Volkswagen plant built in 1938/1939 in the newly founded "City of the KdF Car near Fallersleben" (now Wolfsburg). The KdF car, planned as a "car for the whole people," was to be built at the plant under the direction of Ferdinand Porsche. However, with the start of the Second World War, production was switched to armaments vehicles, and the 630 examples already produced were used for war purposes.
