Rain gauge, 1908. Of the many sizes of rain gauge available during the latter part of the 19th century, the most convenient were the five inch and eight inch diameter gauges. The collecting funnel sat at the top of a cylinder set firmly in the ground, and a collecting jar and measuring cylinder completed the kit.
