PALESTINIANS SIT BEHIND POLICE BARRICADE AT REOPENED SHOP NEAR SETTLEMENT IN HEBRON, 1997-02-15 (photo)

Palestinians sit on the curb outside on of the newly-reopened shops but are forced to sit alone behind Israeli police barricades February 15 as an israeli infantry soldier stands by. Several shops were allowed to reopen after being shut for the past three years, but it is not yet an open area as Jewish settlers claim opening the shops is a security risk as the shops are close to the Jewish settlement of Avraham Avinu. Brief scuffles occurred between Palestinians and Jewish settlers at the shops today and soldiers had to separate the sides. MIDEAST HEBRON
