Image description

Human brain of a man named Louis Victor Leborgne, nicknamed 'Tan' because his neurologic condition left him with difficulty in speaking, and he could only speak the words “tan-tan.” He suffered from the inability to express words because of a brain lesion. He was treated at Bicetre hospital by Paul Broca (1824-1880). He was initially admitted into the psychiatry division of the hospital and was later transferred under the care of Broca toward the end of his life. The story of Leborgne sits in the crossroads of human thoughts that led to the discovery of cerebral localization. The brain is kept in formalin kept at Dupuytren museum in Paris.
