Image description

Münter was a founding member of Der Blaue Reiter (The Blue Rider), a German Expressionist group formed in Munich in 1911. She moved to Stockholm in 1915 when the group dispersed during World War I. This painting belongs to a series of studies of women in various psychological states. The bright, luminous colours convey the joyful anticipation of a woman contemplating her future after receiving a letter from her fiancé.
