Image description

Title Egyptian Hall. Piccadilly. The Artist's Dream. Marvellous & beautiful optical & mechanical effects. Performances daily at 3 & 8 Size 51 x 36 cm. Date [1893] Imprint [London ; Vienna ; Paris ; New York] : J. Weiner, 2 Acton St. London W.C. at Vienna, Paris, & New-York Notes In 1893 David Devant was invited by J. N. Maskelyne to submit an illusion suitable for production on the stage of the Egyptian Hall. Using the same principle that he had employed in his first original effect 'Vice Versa', Devant devised a model for 'The Artist's Dream' in less than two weeks. On the suggestion of J. N. Maskelyne, it was performed to a poem in blank verse written specially for the illusion by Mel B. Spurr. The illusion was first produced at the Egyptian Hall in August 1893. Evan.334
