Image description

The iconographic references lie in the ancient statuary type of the modest Venus and Botticelli's Birth of Venus. The table of the Galleria Sabauda is one of the rare contemporary versions of the Uffizi painting, along with the similar work preserved at the Staatliche Museen in Berlin. A restoration intervention involved the transport of the painting on canvas. The work was purchased in Florence in 1844 by the English reverend Walter Davemport Bromley and after several changes of ownership, in 1920 it entered the collection of Riccardo Gualino, who in 1930 donated it to the Galleria Savoy.
