Death of Koprili the Virtuous. Zade Mustapha Koprili, or Koprili Pazyl, which means Koprili the Virtuous, was born in 1637 and became Grand Vizier to Suleiman II in 1689, after Turkey's forces had been driven from Hungary and Poland and her ships from the Mediterranean. He inaugurated many wise reforms, particularly in finance, and made new laws for improving the condition of the Christian subjects. Koprili commanded the victorious Ottoman armies during the campaign of 1690 against the Austrians, but was killed at the battle of Salankamen in 1690 while bravely rallying his men.
