Martinus RØRBYE (1803-1848) View of Athens from Southwest 1836 Oil on canvas Copenhague, Thorvaldsens Museum During the winter of 1835-1836, Rørbye and the architect Gottlieb Bindesbøll went to Greece and Constantinople. Rørbye made several paintings of Athens and its inhabitants, bathed in winter light. In this view, he had Greek models pose for him on a rock. In his journal, he writes about how curious and amused they were by his work.
