Van Dyck in London (Main title)
Roqueplan, Camille Joseph Etienne
This painting depicts a dining scene featuring the painter Van Dyck (1599-1641), in an interior richly decorated with precious objets d'art. As a maid brings a dish through the door into the dining room, a group of four musicians in the foreground prepares to play. The Flemish master is at a table with friends at the far left of the room. Through the doorway, we can make out an easel and the reverse side of a canvas on the floor, suggesting that we are in the painter's studio.
Signature and date - Signed and dated lower left: "Camille Roqueplan 1837".
