The Second Coming of Christ. Christ is shown descending in a mandorla in thick clouds. He is surrounded by symbols of his divinity; his halo, hair and beard are gold. He is holding a book and a cross staff; and text from Revelation 19, 16. is inscribed on his robes over his right thigh. He is accompanied by angels, who carry the Books of Life, together with the instruments of the Passion. The scene is surrounded by an arched frame of 'Winchester' acanthus, wirh round bosses at the corners. Image taken from Benedictional of St. Aethelwold.
