The orphaned Marta Skavronskaya was raised by the Lutheran Pastor and Educator, Ernst Gluck, who first translated the Bible into Latvian; When Russian forces captured Marienburg, Pastor Gluck was taken to Moscow to work as a translator for Field Marshall Boris Sheremetev; After working in his household, Marta went on to work for Prince Aleksandr Menshikov where she met Peter the Great; In 1705 Marta converted to Orthodoxy and changed her name to Catherine; She and Peter the Great were married in 1707 and she reigned as Empress Consort from 1712-1725;
