Monastere de Geghard

The monastery is of particular significance for the believers and followers of the Armenian Apostolic Church. The unabridged name of the monastery, Geghardavank, means 'the Monastery of the Spear' referring to the Holy Lance which had wounded Jesus at the Crucifixion. Apostle Thaddeus is supposed to have brought the spear to Armenia. There exists a UNESCO partnership with Lorsch Abbey in Hesse, Germany.
