Winston Churchill (1874-1965), British wartime Prime Minister. Rear-Admiral Charles Madden (1862 -1935), later Admiral of the Fleet, served as Chief of Staff to Admiral Sir John Jellicoe (1859-1935) from 1914 to 1916. The Dardanelles, or Gallipoli, campaign agains the Ottomans led to stalemate and the eventual withdrawal of Allied forces.
