Image description

Creator: Kenneth Hurlstone Jones A view of the shoreline at Kowloon. In the foreground are a number of sampans drawn up on the beach, some held upright with lashed poles. Larger junks are partially dried out behind them with small punts alongside. A long three-storey white colonnaded building runs along the waterfront in the background below the hills. In the very front is a Chinese family of a woman and three young children. Two of the boats nearby have people working on the underside of the hulls. The original negative envelope was labelled: 'Sampans careened Kowloon 1901'.
