Image description

John Betjeman (1906-84) English poet and champion of architectural heritage; Martin Jennings (b.1957); bronze, unveiled 2007; see also 421118, 421119 and 421121; In November 2007 London's St.Pancras International station was reopened following a multimillion pound redevelopment as the new terminus for the Eurostar link with Paris and Brussels. Betjeman had been the driving force behind efforts to save the site when it was threatened by development plans during the 1960s and the sculpture stands as a tribute from London and Continental Railways to the man who made their redevelopment of the station possible.
