A young boy wearing a black dress, El Greco's son, addresses his gaze towards the spectator; the boy, who wears a black garment with a wide frilled collar from which comes out a cartouche on which are written date of execution and the artist's signature, brings a torch lit up with his right hand, while with his left hand he points the scene which takes place nearby; behind him, Saint Stephen keeps the corpse of the Count of Orgaz, of whom can be seen the legs: the saint is recognizable thanks to his red and gold vestments, on which inferior side can be clearly seen a scene portraying his martyrdom by stoning Church of Santo Tomé
