Alcide DE GASPERI (3 April 1881 - 19 August 1954) politician, deputy for the Popular Party (1921); anti-fascist, he was arrested in 1927 and remained in prison for 16 months. He organized the clandestine Christian democracy and was his secretary; last president of the Council of Ministers of the Kingdom of Italy since 1945, signed the peace treaty with the allies, and after the post of temporary head of state in the newly formed Italian Republic, it was also the first President of the Council. In 1948 he led the DC to electoral victory over the left. He was Secretary of the Christian Democrats from 1944 to 1946, the year in which he became President of the party, maintaining the post until 1953. He was again Secretary from 1953 to 1954.
