Philip, dressed in brown and yellow, bids a final farewell to his grief-stricken family with a timid hand, and follows Christ, who remains calm and impassive. A pupil of Girodet, Delaval's composition is a masterful example of the neoclassical style. Signature and date - On the right P.L Delaval 1826". Inscription - Tiling inscription, upper right, in the spandrel, in graphite: "8 pied[s] sur 5 [pieds ?]- 6 pouces". Inventory number: PPP4556
