Image description

Designed by Pieter Coeke Van Aelst and Leonard Thiry. Fourth tapestry of the series 'Vertumnus and Pomona'. Manufactured in Brussels in gold, wool and silk. Design and models by the circle of Pieter Coecke Van Aelst and Leonard Thiry. Scene from the Ovid's Metamorphoses (XIV, 647): Vertumnus transformed into a pruner approaches Pomona. Work influenced by “” The Dream of Poliphilo”” whose publication in Venice by the printer Aldus Manutius was accompanied by printings which illustrated marvellous architectural garden settings.
