Image description

This painting shows a view from Bonnard’s studio at his home in Veronnet, close to Monet’s residence at Giverny in the Seine Valley. Bonnard called his house ‘Ma Roulotte’ or ‘my gipsy caravan’. At the left a stooped figure is seen on the distinctively painted blue balcony. Another figure is visible beside a table at the end of the central path leading through the garden. The relationship between houses and gardens was one of Bonnard’s favourite themes during this period.
