Cologne, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany In the vicinity of the Hohenzollern Bridge in Cologne, demonstrating miners board a chartered Rhine steamer to travel to Bonn for a mass demonstration. The crowded ship is just leaving the dock. At the miners' protest of 1959, more than 60,000 members of IG Bergbau took part in the "Marsch nach Bonn" ("march to Bonn"). They came to Bonn from several big German cities by special trains, buses and Rhine steamers.
