Madonna and Child with Saint John the Baptist, Saint Bartholomew, Saint Magdalene and Saint Margaret (Main title) Anonymous; Italy, School of (Italian School) The Virgin, holding the Infant Jesus in her arms, is surrounded by Saint Magdalene and Saint John the Baptist, on her right, and Saint Margaret and Saint Bartholomew, on her left. The symmetrical arrangement of saints around a Madonna and Child, set against a golden background, is typical of 14th-century Florentine production. In addition, these paintings on wood had a lunette format, set in a gilded frame with colonnettes and flame motifs. The painting has therefore been compared to works by Ventura di Moro. The sheer number of paintings in this genre and their interrelationships make it difficult to identify the painter of the Petit Palais painting.
