Switzerland Regina Kaegi Fox Man (b/w photo)

A portrait of Regina Kaegi Fuchsmann, taken on 27 May 1969. From 1933 Regina Kaegi Fuchsmann directed the Proletarische Kinderhilfe in Zurich, which was renamed the Schweizer Arbeiterhilfswerk (SAH) in 1936. She was managing director of the SAH until 1951. In this capacity, she organized holidays for children of workers and German refugees during The Second World War. During the Spanish Civil War (1936-39), she also took care of Spanish refugee children. From 1940, as the initiator of the Colis Suisse campaign, she regularly travelled to the refugee camps in unoccupied France to offer local help. After the Second World War, she was involved in the reconstruction of Europe and organized the Swiss donation in 1944, among other things. From 1948 she was President of Swiss European Aid (Swiss Aid). In the 1950s their commitment shifted to development aid and from 1952 they worked for the UN. In 1955 she was a founding member of the Swiss relief organization for non-European areas (Helvetas). She received her doctorate in law from the University of Zurich in 1961.
