Image description

Falkenjagd. Translation: Falconry. Falcon hunting, an ancient oriental custom, was a pleasure for the nobility. The falconer (falconer) rode into the hunting ground with the falcon blinded by a leather cap on his right fist, which was protected against the sharp bird claws by thick leather gloves. There he threw the falcon, freed from cap and belt, into the air, which, after a short orientation, soon pounced on the prey. Illustration for Deutsche Kulturbilder, 1400-1900 (Cigaretten-Bilderdienst Hamburg-Bahrenfeld, 1934).
