Oil painting on canvas, Sir James Pennyman 6th Bt (1736 - 1808), attributed to Sir Joshua Reynolds PRA (Plympton 1723 - London 1792), bears date on frame label: 1762. A full-length portrait, wearing a tricorn hat and dark blue coat, waistcoat, and breeches, with gold facings, leaning on a long cane, in an extensive landscape in the distance. It was painted 8 years before he inherited the Ormesby title. He had 3 sittings in October of 1762 and the resulting portrait cost £20. (Yet, as Reynolds is not known for painting full-length portraits on this small scale this is unlikely to be the original Reynolds portrait/very early work?)
