Image description

Published by G.S. Tregear, 96 Cheapside, London, and printed by Lefevre & Kohler Newman Street. Bouvier, lith; George Remington, Junior, del. Showing a proposed new railway line, conceived by George Remington, Jr, that was to run from Camden Town to a site near Newgate in the City of London. In 1846 a government edict forbidding new railway lines within the city centre meant that the line was never built. The print shows how the railway was to run along a raised viaduct, slicing through the existing urban landscape. Church and Saracen's Head, Commercial Hotel, in right foreground.
