Pzkpfw VI II King Tiger, Berlin, 1945.
Photograph by Private Robert Powis, Germany, July 1945.
The King Tiger, or Tiger II, was one of the most powerful heavy tanks produced during World War Two. Although it was prone to engine breakdown, the 68-ton Tiger IIs tick armour, combined with its fearsome 88 mm KwK 43 L/71 gun gave it an advantage over nearly all Soviet and Allied tanks.
From a collection of 123 photographs and negatives taken by Pte Robert Powis whilst serving with the 1/7th Queens Royal Regiment, 131 Lorried Infantry Brigade, 7th Armoured Division, Italy and North West Europe, 1943-1945.
