Image description

Photographer: Claire Collins Folding fan with carved bone sticks and guards produced in commemoration of the coronation of King George III (1760-1820) in 1761. The images on the fan depict scenes from the coronation including the entrance of the King's Champion, John Dymoke, at the coronation feast. Dymoke is shown on his horse in full armour in front of a gallery of spectators. In front of him stand heralds, some holding a shield and wearing tunics and feathered helmets, others wearing tabbards. Beside them sit King George III and Queen Charlotte at their table. They both wear their crowns and coronation robes. To the right of their table stand Yeomen. At each edge of the fan are depicted the symbols and regalia (the Crown Jewels) associated with the coronation ceremony, including crowns, sceptres, orbs, coronation rings, the Buskins, Anointing Spoon, Ampulla and the Imperial Mantle (coronation robes)
