On the back of this photograph John James Frowde writes, "Houses (including the Billiard Saloon to Duke Lane) to make way for the new Lord St. Only point of view to get in this particular bit. Ashton's invisible from Lord St. and from a stance nearer Duke St., Montrose's block is out of the picture. This will have to serve. Film in FD 40 takes in these premises, but being later in the year, while a better photo, are nothing like as sharp as this. Later and better April '34."
