Name: Richard Chater Arrested for: not given Arrested at: North Shields Police Station Arrested on: 12 November 1906 The Shields Daily News for 12 November 1906 reports: “THEFT OF A DOG. Richard Chater (33), cartman, 10 Duke Street, Whitley Bay, for being drunk and disorderly in Hudleston Street, Cullercoats, was fined 5s and costs. When apprehended by PC Darling he had in his possession an Airedale terrier dog, which was subsequently identified as the property of William Hope, architect, Whitley Bay. It was valued at £10. For stealing the dog accused was committed to prison for seven days without the option of a fine”. Prisoners brought before the North Shields Police Court between 1902 and 1916.
