Image description

Jeremy Taylor (1613-1667) English churchman. Graduated from Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge. Protégé of Archbishop William Laud and a chaplain to Charles I. In the English Civil War when Laud was impeached and executed for high treason, Taylor came under suspicion and between 1645 and 1657 he was imprisioned three times by the Parliamentarians. After the Restoration of the Monarchy in 1660 he was appointed Bishop of Down and Connor in Ireland. Engraving.
