E.1982.2.6.a COSTUME dress: walking dress circa 1868 silk, metal bust: 910 mm: footprint: 1000 mm x 1000 mm: waist: 660 mm Woman's dress, worn with matching peplum in purple silk with broad stripe in pale purple with mottled pattern. High neckline in V-shape, altered from round neckline, trimmed with white lace collar. Full-length sleeves with band of decorative black corded ribbon at cuff. Full-length skirt, flat at front, pleated into waistband at sides and back. Lower skirt with one narrow frill of self-material. Probably worn by Margaret Hunter, wife of Andrew Paterson, but possibly by Mary Stevenson, wife of James Hamilton.
