Image description

A singular adventure. The merchant Luciano Stanchina di Male (Trento) was driving along the road of the Val di Non when, at the junction of Scanna, he saw a dark mass. I think it's a person who was the victim of an investment. At a short distance he noticed that it was a brown bear, dazzled by the light of the headlights he was not moving. The Stanchina turned off his headlights; the bear stood up and approached the car menacingly. The driver turned on the high beams again and the plantigrad still lies in the middle of the road. It was only after a few minutes that the beast decided to get up and move away, thus allowing the Stanchina to resume the race. Illustration for Courier Sunday, 16 November 1958.
