Half-length portrait, turned to his left, looking front. Wearing a dark slashed tunic, with green-embroidered cloak, red diagonal band across chest. White lace collar - reticella and cutwork. Inscribed in orange at lower left '109', and at top right 'James Lord Strange 1626'. Companion to BLI/P/13. James Stanley, Lord Strange, the future 7th Earl of Derby, who heroically defended Lathom House against the Parliamentarians in 1644. Painted at the Hague in 1626. Blickling Hall, Norfolk (Accredited Museum)
