Image description

Captain I U Battye, Queen's Own Corps of Guides Cavalry, 1911. Photograph by Langfier Limited, 1911. Ivan Urmston Battye (1875-1953) was commissioned in 1895 into the Guides, a regiment that his family had a long and distinguished association with. He spent most of his career on regimental service, but did serve for a period as Commandant of the Small Arms School at Pachmarhi. He retired with the rank of colonel in 1923. From an album of 284 portrait photographs of British and Indian Officers of the Indian Contingent, who attended the Coronation of King George V and Queen Mary, 1911.
