Summer sunshine floods this picture of a duck pond and produces a glow of golden tints all over the scene. The picture probably shows farmland in Berkshire, where the artist was living at this time. Fred Hall had earlier spent fifteen years living in the artists' colony at Newlyn in Cornwall. His interest in studying the effects of sunlight by painting outdoors was formed at that time. He was a successful landscape painter.
