Image description

Plans, elevations, sections, and details of the Alhambra was a collection of illustrations and translations from Granada, Spain that Owen Jones began with French architect Jules Goury. After Goury’s sudden death from cholera, Jones continued on with the project, publishing and printing it himself between 1842 and 1845, with a dedication to his deceased friend. It was one of the first significant works printed with chromolithography, a relatively new process, and it kicked off a prolific career in printing and design for Jones. Jones would later publish The Grammar of Ornament in 1856, a book that was highly influential in nineteenth century design schools.
