Mario Vargas-Llosa (b. 1936). Peruvian-Spanish writer, politician, journalist, essayist, and recipient of the 2010 Nobel Prize for Literature, as well as many other awards. His novels include comedies, murder mysteries, historical novels, and political thrillers. He rose to fame in the 1960s with novels such as The Time of the Hero (1966), The Green House (1966. Later fiction includes the two-volume Conversation in the Cathedral (1975), Aunt Julia and the Scriptwriter(1982) and The Feast of the Goat( 2001). He has moved from the political left to a more liberal/conservative position. Many of his novels deal with Peruvian politics.
