FUNNY CIDE PULLS AHEAD IN THE FOURTH TURN OF PREAKNESS STAKES AT PIMLICO, 2003-05-17 (photo)

Funny Cide with jockey Jose Santos up pulls ahead of Peace Rules, with Edgar Prado up (C), and Midway Road with Robby Albarado up (L), as they make the fourth turn during the 128th running of the Preakness Stakes at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore, Maryland May 17, 2003. The win meant Funny Cide moved within one victory of capturing U.S. thoroughbred racing's first Triple Crown in a quarter-century. Midway Road finished second, and Scrimshaw third in the field of ten. Peace Rules, who led for much of the race, finished fourth. The margin of victory was the second greatest in the 129-year history of the race, just a quarter-length away from the record set in 1873 by Survivor during the first Preakness.
