Punic war: the continence of Scipio the African. Publius Cornelius Scipio Africanus (235-183 BC) general and Roman statesman, after the siege of Carthagena (Spain) kidnapped from the Carthaginians, frees the Celtic hostages. He keeps a part of them, and his soldiers keep a particularly beautiful young girl for him. Scipio refuses the offer and returns the girl to her family.
