Image description

A soldier operates a radio station during the “Patrouille des Glaciers”. For the race control, a special network of wireless telephone stations had been set up throughout the track, giving the organizers a permanent overview of the competition. The Patrouille des Glaciers, a long-distance race from Zermatt to Verbier, was held for the second time on 24 April 1944. 46 three-man patrols will take part, covering a distance of 70 kilometres with a difference in altitude of 7800 metres.
