Otto Frank, on his 90th birthday on May 12, 1979, sits in his apartment in Birsfelden in the canton of Basel, Switzerland, is the father of Anne Frank, whose diary entries left behind a world-famous testimony to the persecution of Jews in occupied Holland. While his wife Edith and their children Margot and Anne died in the concentration camps of Auschwitz and Bergen-Belsen, Otto Frank was the only one of his family to survive the Holocaust.
