Image description

In 1954, a gas station attendant filled the fuel can of a Willys jeep at a “fighting gas station of the automobile industry”. These petrol stations were supposed to deprive customers of the new Migrol petrol stations at an even lower price. Migrol, a subsidiary of the retailer Migros, was launched in 1954 and sold petrol at a competitive price of 49 centimes per litre. The established oil companies reacted harshly to the new competition, which earned the conflict the name “petrol war”.
